Orte_Verschränkungen. Praktiken des Verlernens

Das Seminar schließt an das im WS 2022/23 gehaltene Lektüreseminar zum Verlernen/Unlearning an. Dies hatte sich mit dem Verlernen als Praxis auseinandergesetzt unter anderem bei Gayatri Chakravorti Spivak, Trinh T. Minh-ha und Gloria Anzaldúa. Alle drei legen aus einer feministischen, geopoetischen und postkolonialen Perspektive ideologische und institutionalisierte Formierungen offen und mit ihnen die determinierten und machtvolle, vorgezeichnete Strukturen und setzen diesem ein Verlernen/Unlearning/Undoing als poetische Denkpraxis entgegen, wie Spivak dies mit dem Bild der ,unsichtbaren Flickarbeit‘ thematisierte – einem Gewebe, in dem die bislang nicht sichtbare Perspektiven und Stränge in die kulturelle und gesellschaftliche Textur eingewoben werden. Diesmal richtet sich die Aufmerksamkeit auf die Orte, die Räume ästhetischer Bildung und Vermittlung und ihre Verschränkungen mit Praktiken des Verlernens und inwiefern sie Kunst und ihre Institutionen affizieren. Dabei sind Aspekte von Bewegung wie Flucht und migrantische Bewegung, koloniale Vergangenheit und de/postkoloniale Auseinandersetzung für die theoretische und künstlerische Auseinandersetzung mit Verfahren des Verlernens maßgeblich. So plädiert Christine Ross in ihrer Untersuchung für eine Betrachtung von Koexistenz und Gegenseitigkeit, um die Macht- und Betrachtungsgefälle von Bürger*innen auf der Flucht und denjenigen mit Wohnsitz zu entkoppeln. Im Seminar suchen wir die Orte des Verlernens und ihre Praktiken auf, entwickeln Fragen und Herangehensweisen an Texte und künstlerische Arbeiten.

The seminar follows on from the reading seminar on Unlearning/Verlernen held in WS 2022/23. This had dealt with unlearning as a practice in Gayatri Chakravorti Spivak, Trinh T. Minh-ha and Gloria Anzaldúa, among others. They expose ideological and institutionalized formations from a feminist, geopoetic and postcolonial perspective and with them the determined and powerful, predetermined structures and counter this with unlearning/undoing as a poetic thought practice, as Spivak thematized with the image of 'invisible patchwork' - a fabric in which previously invisible perspectives and strands are woven into the cultural and social texture. This time, the focus is on the places, the spaces of aesthetic education and mediation and their entanglements with practices of unlearning and the extent to which they affect art and its institutions. Aspects of movement such as flight and migrant movement, colonial past and de/post-colonial confrontation are decisive for the theoretical and artistic examination of processes of unlearning. In her study, Christine Ross argues for a consideration of coexistence and reciprocity in order to decouple the power and perspective imbalances between citizens-on-the-move and those who are resident.

In the seminar, we will seek out the places of unlearning and their practices, develop questions and approaches to texts and artistic works.
