Live/Art is an ongoing process-based seminar which focusses on developing performative practice and moving-image works in both the studio and public space. Live/Art participants are invited to work across disciplines in solo works, duets and small groups to expand on digital, durational and live performance work to consider and think critically on the contemporary political landscape. International artists and guests are regularly invited to interact with the group and there is a strong emphasis on the regular attendance of live musical and theatrical performance and contemporary exhibition-making.
The ongoing current protests which have originated from emancipatory, liberation movements and a continued resistance to authoritarian governments and systems of harm have had broad, popular global appeal. These protests have had non-hierarchical formations at the heart of their strategies of opposition, and the creative arts and performance, as articulated by marginalised communities, has been central to the ways in which the demonstrations have taken shape.
Live/Art will continue its research into art-washing and the dominance of weapons manufacturers, ecocide, toxic patriarchy and systems of oppression as represented by the boards of directors in cultural institutions and learning institutions.
We will be meeting with filmmakers, artists, researchers and protest movements to create common links and creative action, discuss the prescience of Jodi Dean’s re-evaluation of comradeship in the light of these conversations, and pursue the line drawn by Shelby Zoe Coley in what she names and heralds a ‘diary of small revolutions’.
