OMG, it’s the cryptic Cyborg Manifesto! One semester. 5 slots. One manifesto.

Donna Haraway’s 1985 Cyborg Manifesto is going to turn 40 soon and is often regarded as the proto-cyberfeminist text. But the older the Manifesto gets, the more cryptic it seems to become. Will we be able to decode Haraway’s insinuations and allusions to 1980s politics, pop and protest culture? What was C3I again? Wtf are Harlequin romances? Does “Star Wars apocalypse” relate to George Lukas’ space opera or to something completely different? Who are the Greenham women and why are they witch-weaving? And what is witch-weaving anyways?

We will spend five sessions reading and deciphering the manifesto together. And if we’re feeling adventurous, we’re going to turn our findings into a little zine. Language will be mostly English, but there’s a German version of the text und es ist auch ok wenn Ihr im Seminar Deutsch oder Denglish sprecht.
