Peter Friedrich Stephan is a designer, consultant and educator. His projects focus on digital and social transformation. As a professor for Transformation Design at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne Peter teaches on all levels including a course on basic design initiating personal transformation as a foundation for transformation concepts for organizations and societies.
Peter developed a series of tools including the »Concern Canvas« and the »Hypercycle of Transformation«. These help to map the dynamics of stakeholders, concerns and artefacts and are used in innovation workshops for companies and organizations.


Having studied design, business communication and music in Berlin and New York, Peter was a pioneer in multimedia design with award winning projects in experimental and commercial contexts. In 1994 he co-founded a university program in Computational Design. In 1997 he was appointed full professor for »Multimedia, Electronic Publishing and Networks« at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. 2002–2013 Peter was a guestlecturer in the joint master program »Leadership in Digital Communication« at the University of the Arts Berlin and the University St. Gallen/Switzerland. Peter lectures and conducts workshops for universities and companies in Europe, Asia, and the USA.


As an author Peter produced 50+ papers on transformation and cognitive design, available at Academia and Researchgate. He is a contributor for radio and online magazines and edited two books »Knowledge Media Design« (2005) and »Events and E-Commerce« (2000). His research includes: 2008–2009 »Intelligent Objects« (funded by the National Academy of Science and Engineering – acatech), 2002–2004 »Medienquadrat« (funded by the Federal Ministery of Education and Research –
BMBF), 1994–1996 »Cognitive Aspects of Visualization«, Research Cluster »Bits–Bilder–Bedeutung«
(funded by the Ministery of Innovation, Science and Research Northrhine-Westfalia).


Peter serves the scientific community as a consultant for the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, FWF – Wissenschaftsfonds Österreich, and ZEvA – Zentrale Evaluations- und Akkreditierungsagentur. He is also a peer reviewer for conferences and magazines.
