Schnitt LAB / Editing LAB

Betreuung und Unterstützung bei der Weiterentwicklung von studentischen Projekten in der Film-Montage. Film-Montage – das zieht sich durch alle Formate – ist ein andauernder Prozess des Revidierens und Infragestellens, mit dem Ziel, eine Kernidee zu schaffen und/oder zu verfolgen.

Dabei geht es darum, eine Sensibilität für das Material zu entwickeln und es lesen und im Kontext beurteilen zu lernen. Denn als Editor*in (und auch als Filmemacher*in) beurteilt man ständig: Gefühle, Handlung, Rhythmus, Kadrage, Raumorientierung, Zeitvorstellung sowie ethische und moralische Parameter.

Es geht darum, Dinge auszulassen, zu verdichten, neue Verbindungen zu schaffen, es geht um dramaturgisches Mäandern, um Persönliches und Universelles, es geht darum, ob Filme am Ende vorbei sind, es geht um Genauigkeit und Wahrnehmung, um Intuition und noch um einiges mehr. Filmische Inhalte und Konventionen können auf diesem Weg gerne hartnäckig hinterfragt werden.

Das wöchentliche Schnitt LAB lädt Studierende ein, ihre Arbeiten von der Materialsammlung bis zum Feinschnitt vorzustellen und bietet gleichzeitig eine regelmäßige inhaltliche, konzeptuelle und dramaturgische Montage-Betreuung an.

Dabei ist das Schnitt LAB praxisnah, formatoffen und semesterübergreifend. Film editing - across all formats - is an ongoing process of revision and questioning, with the aim of creating and/or pursuing a core idea. The focus is on developing a sensitivity to the material and learning how to “read” it and judge it in context. As editors (and filmmakers), we are constantly assessing emotion, action, rhythm, framing, spatial orientation, sense of time, as well as ethical and moral parameters. It is about leaving things out, condensing, creating new connections; about dramaturgical meandering, about the personal and the universal; about whether films are ever truly finished; about precision and perception, about intuition - and much more. Along this path, cinematic content and conventions are very welcome to be persistently questioned. The weekly Editing LAB offers students the opportunity to present their work from material collection through fine cut and offers regular conceptual and dramaturgical editing supervision. It is practice-oriented, open to all formats, and cross-semester.
