Still Creatures

„Still Creatures“ sind animierte Portraitfotos, die sich sehr langsam vom Einen ins Andere morphen. Each creature is composed by combining two stills within an assigned time scale of two minutes. Digital processing is applied to transform the images in order to shape a sentient attitude of the person portrayed. The result is a time-based process inducing a dynamic to the image source. The process transpires gradually and continuously, providing a subtle evolution or change, which is almost imperceptible to the eye. The dynamic generated – the animation of the ""creatures"" – looks very realistic, but an artificiality pervades the mood of their computer-generated nature. The work is silent to focus the attention on the production of meaning made by the visual senses, and to increase concentration of these minimalist portrayals. One could say that Still Creatures is a representation of human 'still-lives'. It is a work about understanding the power of immediate communication: that which has a direct effect on the senses.
