There is no such thing as an Art World—as in a monolithic, homogenous and static entity. There are plural, diverse and interlinked Art Worlds, which each offer differing, and dissonant ways of being an artist. Contemporary art is exhibited in galleries and museums, but contemporary art is practiced in multiple other spaces. Projects, project spaces, community centres, activism, artistic research, bars, clubs, public space, digital spaces—the models are many. We all know this but somehow the traditional exhibitionary spaces still dominates our imagination of what it means to be an artist.
This seminar provides participants with specific examples on the multiplicity of practices within the many Art Worlds. In so doing we hope to open up imaginaries about what contemporary art practice is, and what it can be. Through conversations with guests, and colloquiums, students will gain close insights into the often opaque professional paths within the art spheres.
Indicative list of guests:
Tatiana Bazzichelli – Director and founder DNL
Eugenio Tisselli – Artist and researcher (PhD artistic research)
Ana Ramos – Director of radio web MACBA
*Räuberleiter" can be translated into English as "leg-up" or "boost." It refers to the act of someone forming a step with their interlinked hands or knees to help another person climb up. Sometimes the term is used figuratively to mean giving someone a helping hand.
