reBoot_projekt: traceroute_internet-currents
a trial to map internet-currents
I will send numbered eMails, which will contain an initial word, to a
group of people (friends, collegues, etc.) and post them in newsgroups.
The message will contain a description of the project. It asks reader
to add an own word to the inital word (or the chain of words) and to forward
this eMail to as many people as possible and also to forward a copy of
the eMail to the reBoot with the coordinates of the sender.
When somebody recieves the eMail who is close to the route of the reBoot,
he will be asked to print it out and to come to one of the stops of the
reBoot. So the eMail turns into an invitation for the event of the specific
evening. In addition to that, the header of the eMail and the specifying
number will show the route the message will have been taken.
These headers and the eMails of the people who forwarded the eMail will
be the data we will need to draw a map of the internet-currents, which
will be made during the journey.
The chains of words, which the email will have gathered during its journey,
like a sailor collecting items and stories from every visited harbor,
will be the narrative counterpart to the abstract map of currents. Needed
equipment: 1 computer (mine) + internet-access on the reBoot Costs: minimal
(online-time on the reBoot and at the stops)
