STAIRCASE
_ Düsseldorf, 1995

The staircase serves as the backdrop

for a video recording of passers-by over

a particular period of time.

The recorded situation(i.e. the past situation)

is played back on a small video recorder

viewfinder at the exact same location

where the original recording was made.

With one eye the visitor sees the recording

and simultaneously with the other eye can

observe the real situation. Both the past and

present situation are observed in the same

moment. In this way past and present are

brought together so that the visitor is no longer

sure what is happening now and what has

already happened - all time becomes equal.
