The nymph spiderlings move outward from the cocoon en masse, jointly building a broad, linear web structure. The nymphs begin to moult along the way, using the more remote areas of the group web for this purpose. The Nephila madagascariensis are still a deep red color at this point. In the coming week, the moulted spiderlings will be capable of attacking and eating a small fruitfly in groups of three or four. The less developed of the siblings appear wary of cannibalism at this phase as well. |
