It is a photo-series organised in two parts, one of them concentrating on persons of various origins and cultural backgrounds, photographed in their personal, private environment and the other part concentrating on the T-shirt itself and various possible uses it offers. Altogether there are 20 photos. A book comes with the series. The idea is to obtain a maximum using the minimum. The minimum here is the white T-shirt, a common piece of clothing, any person may use it to dress. Yet the action of dressing has two functions: one of them is to protect while the other is to append one’s individual signature, recognizable for everyone. By functioning so, a T-shirt shows an interior world to the outside, protecting this world at the same time, like a shield. Aside from being a shield, the T-shirt is mostly a chameleon. It’s an asexual piece of clothing, unisex and indifferent to age. Everybody from all different social branches and ages can adapt it for themselves. It’s worn everywhere in the world, which makes it multinational. It’s massively produced because it’s massively consumed and, before reaching the stores, it has travelled more than thousand kilometres. It’s the discreet must-have of all wardrobes, and this thanks to a ideal design, combining simplicity to efficiency. As a parallel to that, a T-shirt has very often other uses: the picture of the white flag is very common but in Brazil for example, it is worn as a mask by gangs members. I‘ve used it myself as a bag a couple of years ago and the father of a friend uses it as a mop.
