RoundTable
a physical input device for the control of virtual cameras.
The so called round table has a round projection area as well as a personal
workspace for each user. Using physical icons (phicons) the user can stipulate
the position of virtual cameras. The resulting scene is displayed on a
projection screen. With this scenario we propose a hybrid mixed reality
environment for real-time camera control during a live-broadcast. Another
application of the RoundTable deals with a artistic real-time sound-mixing
application.

Group Interaction
people experience the sense of presence in a virtual space
through movements as much as through visual or acoustic impressions. As
social beings people are necessarily aware of their (local) position in
group situations and they experience the physical space and the social
climate of a group situation by simultaneously watching and moving around.
In two projects we explore the modalities and limitations of group interaction
in mixed-reality scenarios.

Intuitive Interface
An environment which allows for a more intuitive man-machine
communication by using the entire space in front of a large rear-projection
screen. Computer vision, recognizing movements, gestures and posture,
and speech recognition are used, placing the user in a non-intrusive environment.
The interaction is related to the location and movement of the user withing
this space. The interface has a special focus on the needs of people in
creative fields such as visual arts or film (abstract).

Interactive Film Planning
System
A system for creating and modifying typical situations
for planning films by using multimodal interaction combining speech and
gesture recognition. This ongoing research project involves several computer
scientists and media designers. The research I undertake focuses on gesture
recognition. The Film Planning System is one application of the Intuitive
Interface (see Intuitive Interface for more info). |

Facial Animation
In my master thesis for computer science diploma about model based facial
animation I used laser scanner data and B-splines to automatically generate
facial masks that could be animated without further fine tuning (abstract). |

Facial Animation
During my Internship at Apple Computer, in Cupertino, I
implemented a pratical solution for tracking edges in image sequences using
snakes with a special application to facial animation (abstract). |
