Abstract
In this paper we describe the technical framework of an environment that allows
the user to interact with virtual scenes in an unencumbered way. The application
involves real-time human body recog-nition in front of a large rear projection
screen, where strong use of the physical space and pointing gestures are used
to direct the scene. We will describe the overall system, the object-oriented
design of the tracking system and the structure of the scene description supplied
by the application program. For the pointing gesture we describe the underlying
algorithm based on tracking colored regions and inverse kinematics using a simple
model of the human arm.
