Mpolis

interactive computer video (on 2 volumes of DVD-R)
2001

Documentation
Mpolis is an imaginary city that underlines human influences in its existence and appearance. It becomes exciting just with the interaction of the user suggesting that this city does not exist without the people. This city is divided in four zones that are inspired in Roger Callois writings about games. The city footage is the starting point of the game (documentary shots of the city of Sao Paulo). The rules of the game are the rules of this flat city. There will never be a formal winner. Music Gleb Choutov. (preview 4,4MB)

These are the four zones of Mpolis:

Ilinx: interference      velocity         fall         spin       ecstasy

Mimikry: beauty       illusion fascination    sophistication    creation perfection

Alea: fate       destiny       passivity       chance       luck

Agon: competition       conquer       acknowledgement       power

a common ancestral stranger

installation and CD-ROM
2001

As you click and drag a natural size photo of a man, you see moving tattoos that hide seven parts of a meta body: the memory, the faith, the sight, the feeling of rejection, the insecure origin, the power of modification and the power of transgression. This is a trip into the thoughts of a man who is the synthesis of 50 million people living around the world as foreigners. EMMA-Award 2001. Music Gleb Choutov, Cristiano Moro and Sigma. (documentation: 5,4MB , preview 3,8MB)

Solid Happiness

computer installation
2001

Shown at 3x3 photography group exhibition in Sao Paulo. This installation shows a changing photo. An animation in loop that modifies photos very slowly that the visitor can't see the change, unless the user sees the end of the loop lap when the very last frame turns again to the first. This work deals with the idea of the vision being influenced by chemical substances or special psycho stages.

Das Genlaboratorium

Installation, website
2001

A group of artists took a gene labor to a city gallery. The main idea was to use the prepared tobacco plants as media. Many other ideas were in experiment such as the factor "game" for science, genetic algorithms to recombine music and sound fragments, the similarity of the non-linear film cut techniques with the models of recombination of gene etc. Artists like Björn Schülke, Valie Export and Klaus Fritze took part of this group. www.genlaboratorium.khm.de
