Schneeblind
(Snow Blindness), Installation, 2006
Installation
from black fabric, styrofoam, neon acrylic, stroboscope and me
Symptoms can run the gamut from eyes being bloodshot and teary to increased
pain, feeling gritty and swelling shut. Snow blindness causes permanent vision
loss only in very severe cases.
Through a small window the visitor sees darkness. After a while a stroboscope
light flashes on, visualising a styrofoam plate with neon-dots on it. The
light switches off at the moment and the neon-dots are burned into the visitors
retina. Distracted by this, the visitor recognises the person only at the
second view.
