Co-Realities
Where does the line lie today between the real and the
synthetic image?
The Digitale 1995 will begin by exploring the issues involved
in combining live and computer generated images to bring a story
into reality. Film and television producers will be joined by
game designers and directors of post-production houses
to examine both realities of the commerce of materializing film.
Antoine Simkine - Duboi, Kurt Kohlbecker -BiboTV,
Tricia Ashford, Norbert Moucha - Tag/Traum
moderator: Keith Griffiths
Film: Implosions
How to take the moving image beyond the traditional filmic space...
"Film: Implosions" follows the moving image into realms beyond
the traditional cinema. The images will be chased across
television and into the Internet, then layered in new and
unexpected manners through Holography.
Simon Biggs, Jean-Francois Moreau , Paula Dawson, Marc Sigaud
moderator: John Wyver
Tricking the Pixel
Software is a medium.
Artist-developers will present their work
and discuss its artistic and technological development.
"Tricking the Pixel" presents the work of individual artists
working with, and developing their own digital tools.
The experiment will be conducted by the Auteurs themselves.
Zbigniew Rybczynski, Larry Cuba, John Grimes,
Christine Chang, Bob Sabiston, Masa Inakage
Constructing the Image
"Constructing the Image" builds on "Tricking the Pixel",
exploring the history and the future of experimental animation
where the beauty of abstraction remains the consistent theme.
Several traditional and abstract film makers will join the
discussion and speak about their freedom of experimentation
before the digital age.
Rebecca Allen, Yoichiro Kawaguchi, David Larcher,
Jose Antonio Sistiaga
Non-linear (Hi)Stories
Can we narrate through navigation?
"Non-linear (Hi)Stories" will explore the future of the
documentary, scripted and "environmental" films, focusing
specifically on the ability to show several viewpoints through
a non-linear structure, and discussing what role narrative
takes in such a film.
Michael Brynntrup, Jill Scott, Rachel Strickland, Grahame Weinbren
moderator: Simon Pummel
Cinema: Explosions
Where will the transmutation of cinematic architectures lead?
"Cinema: Explosions" examines the transmutation of the physical
cinema itself - the metamorphosis of the architecture, the formats,
the perception, and even the changing markets of the viewing space
while delving into multi-sensorial film, large-format projection,
and "Ride Films".
