Several German cities are opening or planning art works related to sun, wind, water. This is a strong support for the movement of "Citizen towards the Solar Age." A primary impulse came from the "SolArt Global Network" that had been established by Jurgen & Nora Claus from 1993 on.

A wind park with four large Enercon E 40 wind mills opened on June 22, 1996, south of Wismar in Eastern Germany, all painted up to 15 m height by four artists. Among the artists Jurgen and Nora Claus participated with the general theme "Save the Oceans!" A 3 minutes video documentation "Kunst im Windpark" (Art in the Wind Park) had been produced in late 1996. The "Wind Park Luebow" supplies enough energy for 1200 families. With the painted pylons it is an attraction for visitors from different parts of Mecklenburg and surrounding regions.

An exhibition "sculptura ulm '96" opened July 6th to August 31st 1996 as part of the Solar Year created by the city of Ulm in the Southwest of Germany. The exhibition, curated by Dr. Caius Burri, president of the Ulm Art Foundation, demonstrated the topic of moving art works driven by sun, wind, water. Among the participants are Francois Baschet from France, Peter Vogel and Jurgen Claus from Germany, Frederick William Ayer from the United States. An extensive catalogue had been published and can be ordered. (Address: Prof. Dr. Caius Burri, Obertalfingerweg 35, D-89075 Ulm, Germany.)

Two more cities, Dillingen in the Saar district, and Juelich near Aachen in the outer West of Germany, will celebrate and celebrated already the laying of the corner-stone of new solar activities in 1996. A remarkable Solar Campus for Juelich will show from 1998 on artworks driven by sun and wind -- like the "Solar Crystal" that was designed and built by Jurgen Claus, together with engineer Wolfgang Krug and students of the Technical College FH Aachen-Juelich. To conclude this list with activities, it should be mentioned that the Albwerk electricity company in the German city of Geislingen, not far from Stuttgart, is planning a Solar Sculpture designed by Jurgen Claus in 1997.

The SolArt Global Network participated in a project study of the International Solar Center Berlin called "21 Bridges towards the Solar Age," which is related to the World Exhibition "Expo 2000" in Hannover , Germany.
