Description of the recording place
Thessaloniki is an old city at the South of Greece in Macedonia.
It lies on the "Thermaikos" golf, has a busy port
and 1.000.000 inhabitants. Thessaloniki is a city of great
history and culture and it stands next only to Athens.
That's why it is calles "Symprote - vousa", that is co-capital of Greece.
In the Byzantine times it was a great cultural and commerce center.
Today is a modern and it will be in 1997 the Cultural Capital of Europe.

Description of the location
The location is in the centre of the city opposite the "White Tower" and
was made from a park.
Right behind the camera is a big tree and the Cafe (Dorre)
which is famous, for it has served a lot of well-known actresses and
actors after the cinema-nights
at the International film contest.
What is special to the choosen location
The special about the place is that is opposite the "White Tower" a sort
of registered trademark of Thessaloniki.
The tower was really "bloody" under the Ottoman rule as a prison.
People call it white to forget the things that happened there.
Behind the tower to the North is the Sea.
What does the recording show
I think I have already answered to this question. Right in front
of the camera is the road that goes along the coast of the
"Thermaikos" Golf. It is one of the main roads of Thessaloniki.
What can be heard
The location is rather noisy. Too many cars, busses, motor cycles
come and go. Behind the camera is a cafe and I think that you will
hear laughter, talks and people playing backgammon
What happend at your location on the 9th of September
The 9th of September was the opening day of the 60th Thessaloniki
International Fair. We wanted to get some plans of the location,
but we couldn't find a right spot.
What happend in your country on the 9th of September
The opening of the fair was the biggest event in Greece that day.
The opening is combined with a lot of political action. The Prime-Minister
