Description of the recording place
Reno is a city of contrasts. Visually, it appears as a futuristic city, dreamed
and made tangible by some fantasy-minded creatures. By night, brilliantly
illuminated as if there is no end to energy resources, and in direct contrast to
some conditions some people are left in after watching their bright dreams fade,
nickel by nickel, into the black hole of the gaming industry. Visually, Reno also
is a university town, with quiet residential home-town streets, parks, and churches.
But most striking is seeing Reno from an altitude, a hill. Then Reno appears in
perspective. A recent man-made entity juctaposed with 25 million year old mountains,
range-land, high desert
Description of the location
Camera were tripo-ed on newly dried curbsides, where Melody Lane and Scottsdale Road
intersect. This location is on a hillside overlooking the most Northern section of
downtown Reno. This hill has gradually been covered by more new houses. The cameras
are viewing over properties that in a matter of days will be fully constructed
houses. So the cameras' views will no longer exist. The houses will
What is special to the choosen location
The view of the illuminated buildings of the North end of Reno's downtown district and
the Sierra Nevada mountains to the West, as a backdrop, made this location visually
interesting. North McCarran Boulevard, a busy road, skirts this hillside
What does the recording show
The main portion of the recording shows brightly lit buildings on the North section of
downtown Reno, Nevada. In the lower portion of the recording, lights of moving
traffic can be seen. Night. And our wishes for the world! Smiles!
What can be heard
Noise from traffic on McCarran Boulevard, people's footsteps who participated in
this project, the cellular phone ringing when Christin called us from Germany,
crickets, a vehicle which passed us more than once as it delivered morning papers,
some whispering, some laughter, the alarm from my sailing watch, followed by the
alarm of the watch you sent me to signal the start of the recording segment
(very loud alarm), and the wishes for the world from the fifteen participants
who were present at the recording. More smiles!
What happend at your location on the 9th of September
At the site of our recording, work crews continued laying house foundations. In
Reno, the main uplifting event was the great Reno Balloon Race. Over 125 hot air
balloons floated above our city. Neat!
What happend in your country on the 9th of September
In 1776, the second continental congress established the term "United States" as an
official term referring to America, so "United States" replaced "United Colonies".
Many people in America strove to make this a united planet. Many did not. My hope
and belief is many Americans loved, were loved, and lived this day based on love
