Description of the recording place
The Sakurayama Shinto Shrine is in the heart of the city of Morioka, a historical place in the midst of the busy town. Morioka is the capital of the Iwate prefecture in the Northern part of the main island Honshu of Japan. Morioka has about 250.000 inhabitants, is an University town, surrounded by a rural landscape.

Description of the location
To the right of the main Shrine. The Sakurayama Shrine is next to the site of the former Morioka castle. Although the Shrine is on the main street it is a place of quiet; people stop their daily routine to pray and to find some moments of silence and contemplation. At the main entrance you have to clame several steps. The camera was placed in a position where it could not be noticed

What is special to the choosen location
Because it combines the ancient and the new Japan. In Japan you are always struck with how close the old and new are.

What does the recording show
Japanese men and women visiting the Sakurayama Shrine on Saturday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. They come to thank and pray for favours received and favours yet to come
Construction workers, both men and women putting their tools away
From 8:05 to 8:15 p.m. commentary and self-introduction by Dr. Simone Seym and Dr. Clayton Alexander Nickel

What can be heard
Sounds of the Shinto ceremony of prayer: a gong, clapping hands, sounds of thrown coins!
Steps of those coming and going
Construction noice which over-powers the sound of the crickets and the tranquility of the Shrine: But that's live life!

What happend at your location on the 9th of September
At the location a group of construction workers worked late into the night to complete a driveway. To finish this project they knocked down the many hundred year old walls to the right of the main entrance of the Shrine! A little further down there was a Brazilian Pop-Music-Festival in the pedestrian zone

What happend in your country on the 9th of September
Nothing special
