Cooperation, International Relationships
The KHM is characterised by its international body of students and teachers. Projects, productions, exhibitions etc. very often take place in more or less far-off locations. Those working at the KHM bring experiences from various cultural backgrounds into the daily praxis of artistic production. This internationalisation is to be found in the artistic/filmic output, even more so than in the exchange program itself.
These “foreign experiences” are intense and frequent, not seldom but often ephemeral. Many exchange agreements are made for one-off occasions. Others have proven themselves over a number of years, though in irregular intervals and more still have run consistently and regularly for many years.
In general, these relationships have developed through personal contacts or co-operations; most are based on particular study/research aims. With around 25 professors and 330 students, exchange and production relationships are largely personalised; they depend on the focus of individual study and research and very often change according to this.
Therefore, not all co-operations are of the same relevance to all interested parties. Students who wish to apply with a particular aim should therefore conduct thorough research beforehand as to which study visit would fit their course at the KHM and whether sufficient on-site supervision, as well as through the faculty of the KHM, is ensured. The KHM’s previous or current co-operations serve as a guide; it often also makes sense to create unique, newly conceived links.
Scholarship holders who have chosen the Academy of Media Arts as their guest academy, or exchange students, who wish to study in Cologne based on an agreement with the KHM, are asked to consult the KHM Merkblatt intl Studd information provided for visiting students.
Information about the currently established co-operations of the KHM with foreign Universities and open calls are available in the Intranet.
