About the Project Archive
Artistic projects of the students
Study at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne is project-oriented. The spectrum of the works of the students is very broad indeed: installations, feature films and documentaries, photographic works, videos, websites, electronic music, animation films, projects and actions in public spaces, light-art, computer games, software programmes, performances, scripts, concepts, and many mixed forms.
During their studies, students realize up to four of their own projects. Additionally, in the context of seminars and practical work they develop further projects, some in collaboration with other students.
Presentations
The KHM presents the current projects of their students once a year to the public at the “Tage der offenen Tür” (Open Days) in mid-July. A selection of the artistic works is presented during a special show at the ART Cologne in mid-April. Selected films and scripts are presented at the specialist audience event “Showcase” at the beginning of October. There are numerous further occasions when the Academy invites the public to presentations of the work of its students. On average each year the students of the KHM are awarded approximately one hundred awards at international festivals and competitions for their artistic projects.
The project archive of the Academy of Media Arts Cologne
The project archive archives and documents all of the projects produced by students of the KHM. To date, the archive contains over 2500 projects. The student assistants in the archive work to maintain accessibility and visibility of the projects internally, for the Academy, and externally, for the public. The archive provides support for the work of the press and public relations department.
