Research
Research at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne is distinguished through its integration and connection of not only the different artistic media, but also through practical work and theory. Scientific and artistic methods of research are pursued as different but equally important ways of knowledge production, with activities focusing on the development of an interrogative approach.
In recent years, productive interdisciplinary laboratories and platforms have emerged that combine artistic research and epistemological issues. Research projects are being initiated and carried out, workshops and conferences are hosted and the results are published regularly. Moreover, the academy is cooperating with various research networks.
At the Academy of Media Arts, research is done by members of the teaching staff or carried out by teams in externally funded projects, in cooperation projects with other universities or research institutions and in individual PhD projects that have been pooled in the “Artefakte” PhD programme since the beginning of 2009.

Embodied Information
BMBF Collaborative Research Project: FU Freie Universität Berlin, khm Academy of Media Arts Cologne and guest researchers.
The goal of the research group is to analyse the concepts and visions currently applied to produce units of embodied information in the fields of information and bio sciences. Our investigations are based on interviews with leading scientists and analyses of concepts, practises, images and metaphors for conceiving and envisioning 'converging technologies'.
